PLEXUS shines the Spotlight on five very different world premieres from composers hailing from Australia and overseas.
Argentinian-born Berlin-based José Hernan Cibils’ Chacarera Rara draws its influence from a rural Argentinian dance form – a celebration of nativism in contrast to the urbanised, cosmopolitan tango.
Gerard Brophy’s Trinity (Three Meditations) is inspired by the composer’s enduring interest in non-Western cultures and his extensive travels in the Caucasus.
Robert Davidson, in Lost in Light, sets Sara Teasdale’s poem I am not yours in his sonic expression and exploration of what it is to be completely in love with someone without losing one’s autonomy and sense of self-identity.
Julian Yu, in Classical Stories, appropriates eight favourites of Classical Music and takes the mickey out of them.
Last but not least, we celebrate Larry Sitsky’s 80th Birthday with his Wozzeck inspired Blood from the Moon. Join us for cake after the show!
