Women In Music Festival 2019
International Women’s Day Commission
Expressions of interest are invited from Australian women composers, to be considered for the 2019 International Women’s Day Commission.
One composer will be selected to receive a $2,000 commission fee, and will write a new chamber work of approximately 8-12 minutes duration, for clarinet, violin, piano and soprano voice, set to a text of the composer’s choosing, to be premiered by soprano Greta Bradman together with PLEXUS (violinist Monica Curro, clarinettist Philip Arkinstall, and pianist Stefan Cassomenos) at the inaugural Women in Music Festival, Saturday 9th March 2019, in Melbourne.
In addition, one emerging composer (defined as being in the first five years of her professional practice) will be selected to receive a $1,000 commission fee, and will write a new chamber work of approximately 5-8 minutes duration, for violin, piano and soprano voice, set to a text of the composer’s choosing, to be premiered by soprano Deborah Cheetham together with violinist Monica Curro and pianist Stefan Cassomenos, at the inaugural Women in Music Festival, Sunday 10th March 2019, in Melbourne.
Composers must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, and identify as women.
Applications are due by 5:00pm on Monday 31st December 2018, and the two successful applicants will be notified by Monday 7th January 2019.
The due date for completion of the new compositions would be Monday 18th February 2019.
Applicants are asked to provide examples (score plus sound file) of two of their existing works, for any instrumentation, uploading all materials to dropbox, google drive, or similar. Scores should be in PDF format. Sound files may be live recordings of musicians, or computer realisations (MIDI, etc) are also acceptable.

The successful composers give their permission for their newly commissioned works to be performed and broadcast as nominated by the selection panel. The decision of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into. All composers who submit an application may be considered for further opportunities through PLEXUS and the Women in Music Festival.
